The worst mistake to make once a storm has formed and is headed toward SWFL is to assume it WON’T hit us! PREPARE for the worst, and hope for the best. Once a storm has a name, it is too late to call to have hurricane protection installed. Think about it now – most reputable storm protection companies offer free estimates.
In the event it appears likely a storm will impact our area:
Assess your situation
What are the weak points of your home? Older doors, windows, garage doors?
Secure openings with plywood, remove all loose items from yard and lanai
If you have hurricane protection, are ALL openings protected?
Prepare Early
Deploy manual hurricane protection (screens or panels)
Secure house and evacuate – take valuables / non-replaceable items
Lower pool level, shock pool, turn off pump
If Staying:
Stock up on water and food
Count on electricity being out for at least a week
